Weekend Round Up 23-Feb-20

The weekend’s content for the Ryston Runners AC report almost constitutes a microcosm of the club’s range of activities, as it features a little news from each of road, cross country, and track and field events.

Having qualified for the England National Indoor Championships, David MacQueen (U15B) headed to the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield for the event. A strong run in his heat of 7.74 seconds saw him qualify for the semi-final, in which he ran 7.75 seconds. Although this wasn't enough to get him through to the final, this was a great experience racing against the fastest boys in the country in his age group.

The Tarpley 20 mile race, such a popular road event for those preparing for spring marathons that the entry is usually full by early autumn of the previous year, featured 3 Ryston members among the 321 finishers : Kevin Farquhar ( 48th 2:26:41), Anna Smith (99th 2:44:01/4thW40), and Irena Marcinek (122nd 2:49:09/8thW40)
Sue Tuff and Jon Benstead were Ryston’s only 2 representatives at the Sublime Peterborough Winter 10K, finishing 378th and 381st in 69:17 and 69:19 respectively out of almost 450 runners.
The results from the Athletics Norfolk Cross Country Team challenge have just been announced. In the debut year of this competition Ryston featured in the honours in all 4 categories, winning the Men’s B team section and placing 2nd in the Men’s A and Women’s A and B categories. The prizes for this series are due to be presented at the County Awards evening on April 1st in Norwich.
