Weekly News Update 3rd April 2016

There has been plenty of impressive performance by Ryston Runners this weekend, including performances from abroad including Prague Half Marathon and Eastern Masters Indoor Championships.

Prague Half Marathon

Matt and Lisa Pyatt to took part in the Prague Half Marathon. As well as finishing in the Top 50 (45th) Matt was the first British Male finisher in a time of 1 Hour 13 mins and 27 seconds, fastest half marathon time by a Ryston Runner in 2016. Lisa’s also had a very good run, running 1 hour 45 minutes and 23 seconds, finishing 52nd in her age category.

Eurpoean Masters Indoors

Gaye Clarke has been competiting during the previous week at the Eurpoean Masters Indoors. She was taking part in the Pentathlon, Long Jump and Hurdles.

First event of the week (29/03/16) was the Pentathlon, Gaye on recovery from a knee injury did very well to jump over 4 metres in long jump and over 1.33 metres in high jump.  She finished 6th overall in the Pentathlon with a score of 3586.

Next up was the Long Jump competition on the 1st of April. Gaye pulled out a jump slightly further than she did in the Pentathlon, to jump 4.12 metres, again good enough for 6th place.

Last up was the Hurdles on the 2nd of April. Where Gaye ran a time of 10.82, which was good enough for 4th place.

Thorney 10K

The 5 Ryston athletes who ran at Thorney 10km came away with very impressive performances. The three males were all under 40 minutes. Callum Stamforth came second in the race in a new personal best of 34:11. Not far behind was Adam Matthews who also ran a new pb in a time of 35:14, finishing 5th and first Under 23 Male.

Martin Sheldrick was also racing finishing 28th in a time of 39:55. Lorena Latisaite was 5th woman home, in a time of 42:12. Helen Sewell was 3rd in her age category with a time of 68:05.

Wymondham AC 20 Miler

Ryston Runners were well represented at the Wymondham AC 20 Miler. With athletes getting last minute race practise in before the marathon season. First home from Ryston was Simon Able in 30th (2:19:37). Other finshers in the top 100 were Martin Ive (41st 2:25:51), Darren Smith (68th 2:35:27) and Lesley Robins (72nd 2:35:56).

Also under the 3 hour mark was Julia Norman (2:57) & Barry Smith (2:58). Also running was Juliette Meek (3:04), Jane Ashby (3:12:26), Martin Blackburn (3:14) & Sarah Partridge (3:20)
