It was a busy weekend for Ryston Runners, Cath and Pete Duhig took part in the European Masters Non-Stadia Athletics Championships, Ryston Senior Track and Field team had the second SAL of the season in Ipswich and the clubs Juniors were at Norwich for the first Quad Kids of the season.

European Masters Non-Stadia Athletics Championships

At the European Masters Non-Stadia Athletics Championships in Monte Gordo (Vila Real de Santo Antonio) at the weekend there were mixed fortunes for the two athletes from Ryston Runners AC taking part. Cath took part in the 10K and 20K race walking and Pete Duhig was in the 10K Run.

In the 10K Cath went out fast and did well to finish 4th in the W60 Age Group, as well as being part of the GB W50 team who took Bronze in the team event. Her time was 64:45.

In the 20K with better pacing than the 10K Cath finished strong to take Silver in the W60 age group competing in very humid conditions. Her time was an impressive 2:20.

Pete Duhig performed well in the 10km Run as he has only just returned from a foot injury. He ran a time of 47:17, finishing 3rd out of the M65 GB athletes, GB as a team were unlucky to not medal, finishing 4th.

Southern Athletics League - Ipswich

On Saturday the Ryston Runners Senior Track and Field Team took on very strong opposition at Ipswich in the Southern Athletics Team. Even though the team didn’t get the overall finish we were aiming for there were some very impressive Individual Performances.

Annie Rooks Won the 1500m Steeple Chase, improving on her own Club Record running a time of 5:41:8. Gabrielle Clare jumped a new Triple Jump PB of 8.23m as well as equalling her 100m PB of 15.4. Lorena Latisaite set a new track 5km PB to finish second in a time of 20:19:9. And Kelly De-Gol in her first ever Pole Vault competition vaulted 1.70m to finish second.

In the Mens Danny Rock ran a new 3km PB of 9:32:2, with Chris Balmer just behind in 9:39:9.

Quad Kids - Norwich

Also on Saturday was the First Norfolk Quad Kids Competition of the Summer. Bailey Took finished the day in second position in the Year 6-8 Age Group, finishing 3rd in the 100m, 4th in Long Jump, 4th in the throw and first in the 800m with a time of 2:34 minutes. Also in this age group was Liam Clare who finished the day in 8th with highest finish coming in the 100m 14.8.

In The Y6-8 Girls Bea Honeybone who is 2 years younger than some athletes in the age group did brilliantly to finish 6 out of 35 athletes, with her highest finish in the vortex throw where she finished 2nd. Also in this age group was Saffron and Lily Teasdale who finished 25th and 29th.

David MacQueen was the highest Ryston finisher in the Boys Year 4 & 5 finishing 4th, with a Win in the Sprint and 2nd in the Long Jump. Thomas Turner was 6th overall, Oliver Da was 21st and George Evans was 27th
