Weekend Road News Update 14/08/16

On the roads, a handful of Ryston athletes enjoyed still and mild conditions over 5
miles and Half Marathon distances.

The flat Thorney 5 mile course, which is usually beset by strong winds, proved
particularly amenable, with Ryston's best performer being 17th placed  Pete Johnson 1st M60  in30:41, qualifying him for a club Diamond Standard award. Tony Savage, 43rd in 33:56 was 4th placed M55, and ran a Gold Standard time. Carl Manning, returning to competition after a lay-off, was 6th in the same category in 35:13 while his wife, Jan, placed 5th in the SW category despite being W35, was 78th in 39:25, pushing their daughter Alyssia in her buggy.

The course for the Great Yarmouth Half Marathon was somewhat hillier, passing
through the grounds of Somerleyton Hall. First of the Ryston contingent across the
line was Michael Howlett (SM), 43rd in 1:31:32, with his father, Kevin Howlett
(M55)  next home, 82nd in1:37:47. Keith Morris (M55) was 245th in 2:01:11, with
Jane Ashby (W65) 10 places behind in 2:02:33, enjoying the fact that the race had
gone through the village bearing the same name and also past Ashby Hall. Martin
Blackburn (M55) and Sarah Partridge (W55) completed the Ryston effort, in 257th
and 258th with 2:03:05 and 2:03:24 respectively.
