Weekend News Update - 21-08-16

Saturday was a busy day for our senior track team with the last Southern Athletics League of the year, Sunday saw some of our road runners take part in a 10km, we also had some juniors taking part in the Inter-Counties on Sunday.

Southern Athletics League

On Saturday the Senior Track and Field Team travelled to Bromley for the final Southern Athletics League of the season. We were against First, Second and Fifth in the League, we were sitting Twelfth going into this match, knowing that we were needing to finish third on the day to have any chance of staying up.  Even though we had issues with athletes getting to match on time due to accidents on the M25 causing ques and also missing key members, the Ryston’s athletes who were there stepped up and we managed to finish a comfortable third on the day, giving us a decent chance of staying up. We will know by midweek whether we managed it.

There was plenty of personal bests on the day. Che Plant managed three, 400m (57.99 secs) 2km Steeplechase (7:08:09 mins) and also throwing the hammer for the first time. Also gaining three personal bests was Lorena Latisaite 400m (69.19 secs), 2km Steeplechase (8.25.71mins 2nd) and Shot Put (7.17m).

It was a good day of sprinting by the younger Ryston Athletes. In the Mens 100m both Quinton Houston (12.14 secs) and Anwar Bouilouta (12.48 secs 1st B String) managed to run personal bests. In the Womens 200m Caitlin Harris- Doy ran a new personal bet of 32.64 secs.  Other personal bests on the day were Kelly De-Gol in the 800m (2.37mins) and Holly Chen in the Long Jump (4.61m).

There was good points scores in the following events, Mens Sprint Hurdles 2nd A string and 1st B string for Daniel Yellop and Gareth Hunt, same result for Gareth (1.70m) and Quinton (1.65m) in the High Jump, Two Seconds in the Steeplechase (Robert Simmonds and Che), Pole Vault (Rob and Ian Hogarth). Robert won the Javelin with a throw of 45.96m. In the Womens Discus we took two seconds place finishes by Laura Allen (20.88m) and Rebecca Tuff (19.84m), and in the Hammer Gaye Clarke (26.58m) and Laura (19.55m) were second.

Southern Inter-Counties U15 & U20 - Horspath

Ryston had three juniors representing Norfolk in the South of England AA U15 / U20 Inter County Championships at Horspath on Sunday.
Thea Howlett in the Under 15 Girls age group took part in the Javelin and Shot Put. In the Javelin she finished 5th with a throw of 33.66m. In the Shot Put she threw 9.32m. Both these performances were increasing her own Club Records.
Kate Willis was also in the Norfolk U15G team, competing in the 800m and finished 5th in her heat, unfortunately only a few seconds away from qualifying for the final. Hannah Brown competed in the U20 400m, cruising through the first round to qualify for the final, which was a tough race in the wind and rain. Despite coming back from an injury, she positioned well.
